WE'RE BACK!
Jul. 5th, 2010 06:17 pmBack from a lovely weekend away. And boy, was it great.
Started off Friday night with the Rob Thomas show. On my way down on the train, apparently some shit exploded at hubby's work, so I ended up having to meet him there. Then it ended up taking awhile to get everything sorted, so we didn't leave his office until 5:45 (the show started at 5:30). Then we had to stop and get dinner on the way, so we got there about 6:15. But it was free, so I wasn't too upset. And since we got there so late, it was super crowded, so we just went in one of the side entrances and plopped ourselves down in the back. If you have me on Twitter, you saw what we saw. LOL But then, we moved to the side a little bit and hey! There's a video screen!! I got a few pics of that with my regular camera, and they look kinda OK. I need to check them on the laptop and if they are, I'll get them up. We got there as he was doing Streetcorner Symphony. Then the rest of the set list played out pretty much like the set list from his concert back in November. But it was still all good. :-D We didn't stay for everything as we wanted to get on the road before it got too late and crowded.
Then we were off to Indiana. It ended up just being us, his mom and ex-step-dad (yeah, whatever). So it was a pretty chill weekend. Chris was a little upset since his one brother was supposed to come out with another friend, and since they didn't, he didn't get to go out on the speed boat ad go tubing. :-( I got a little sunburned Saturday on my back, but it's not that bad.
And now we're home! I managed to catch up on my flist, but if there's anything important I might have missed, feel free to point it out. I'm not even going to bother trying to catch up on Twitter. LOL

ROB THOMAS IS A GO!!!
Jul. 1st, 2010 10:08 pmYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hubby agreed to my plan. It has been modified slightly, due to mother in law's plans. She will now be coming here to collect Gabriel in the morning and taking him down to IN early. So, I will basically be without him all day. :-( But that'll be OK, cos I now have quite a lot of errands I need to run tomorrow before leaving for the weekend.
As a reminder, I will be internetless for the weekend. We'll be back sometime on Monday.
HAPPY FOURTH TO MY AMERICAN FRIENDS!!

I WANT TO GO!!!!
Jun. 30th, 2010 07:53 pmROB THOMAS IS GOING TO BE AT TASTE OF CHICAGO ON FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a FREE SHOW, people! FREE. Let me repeat, FREE.
Sadly, I have no idea if I'll actually be able to go. It's at 5:30, I hate driving in the city, taking a train with a toddler is Not A Good Idea at this point. Plus, we're supposed to head out to the lake house for the holiday weekend. And we usually leave late Friday night when we go. Hmm... Guess I'll have to see what hubby says when he gets home...
Oooo! I just had an idea.... I could take the little guy to Mother In Law's house, catch a train from there, then we could leave for Indiana from her house, instead of coming all the way home. Or having to figure out some way to schlep everything to The Taste. Hmm.....

Rob Thomas Review
Nov. 1st, 2009 06:12 pmThe concert was awesome. As I knew it would be. :-) It was at a new place: The Venue at the Horseshoe Casino over in Hammond. The theater was very nice. Comfortable seats, which was very good for me. :-) There were supposed to be two opening bands - One Republic and Carolina Liar. However, when we got there there was a sign that One Republic would not be performing due to illness. :-( That's OK. Meant the concert would be over a little sooner than intended. And that was OK with me as I was already very tired by the time we got there. So, we just had Carolina Liar. And I gotta say they were pretty awesome. I enjoyed them immensely. Think I'll be looking up their CD. They had already taken the stage by the time we got there after eating dinner and I guess something had happened earlier with the lead singer's guitar amp. Because near the end of their set, Rob came out with a small portable amp thing to fix it and it worked! Rob The Tech Geek to the rescue! LOL But, yeah, he's cool like that. :-)
Then, after about a half hour wait, IT WAS ROB!!!! Yay!!!!!!!! So, I will admit I tried to record the concert with the mic on my mp3 player. Sadly, it did not turn out. It's all distorted and sadly sounds like complete crap. :-( I guess the sound was too much for my wimpy little guy. LOL But, here is the set list:
~Fire On The Mountain
~Give Me The Meltdown
~Real World '09 (Woot!!)
~Lonely No More
~Mockingbird
~Sunday Morning New York Blue (For all the married people that are still getting it on. Didn't make the record, and he's really upset about it so he plays it at all the shows. This was my potty break. LOL)
~Streetcorner Symphony (the drummer was really getting into this one and almost hopped off his seat a couple time and broke a drumstick during it)
~Natural
~Getting Late (A "happy little ditty about death" as he calls it. Which is completely accurate.) A couple guys from Carolina Liar came out and jammed with the band on this one.
~Still Ain't Over You
~Ever The Same - Acoustic (piano & guitar) and sooooooooooooo amazing. I got a little teary, I will admit.
~Cradlesong
~Someday (with a gorgeous piano intro by Matt Beck)
~Something To Be
~Little Wonders (from "Meet The Robinsons" Soundtrack): The story behind the song - Rob was in a pissy mood and walking his dog. He looks down, expecting the dog to be all sympathetic and pissy, too. But nope. The dog is happy as can be. As he said, it was like the dog was all "Hey dad! We're fucking walking!" So, the dog was more in the moment than Rob was and that's what the song is about. Being in the moment, etc.
~Fallin' To Pieces
~Her Diamonds
~I Am An Illusion
~Rest Stop
~Feels So Bad (Didn't make the record, but made like an iTunes exclusive or something like that)
~Smooth (Always feels like he's doing a cover even though he wrote it)
~This Is How A Heart Breaks
The reason he's not doing many MB20 songs on tour is because THEY'RE GOING OUT ON TOUR NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!
So, it's not that he doesn't like to play those songs. He does. Just with those guys.
So, all in all, he covered all my favorites from the new disc. I will admit, it always makes me a little giddy when I get to hear the bands I love doing the songs I've used in videos. :-)
So, yeah. That was the show. It was FANTASTIC. If you can, go see him. You won't be disappointed.

I have new music & movies!
Jul. 3rd, 2009 11:37 amFirst up - Rob Thomas' new CD Cradlesong. It's AMAZING. Y'all need to go get it right now. Really great orchestrations/arrangements. This one song, Wonderful, has got the full horns/sax back-up and it is GREAT. Even better than the last solo album. Go Rob! :-)
Movies - Christian Kane's Hide is finally out on DVD. Woohoo!!! Then I ran out to Best Buy this morning and got My Bloody Valentine, Burn Notice Season 2 and Atlantis Season 5 with my birthday money. Can't wait to listen to the commentaries on the BN discs. I've heard they're pretty awesome.
All right. Now I must get to the cleaning and laundry. Woohoo.

ROB THOMAS WAS AWESOME!!!!
Jun. 16th, 2009 01:09 pmOMG, the show was the best thing ever!!! It was so amazing, I can't even begin to say.
First of all, I was up at 3:45 AM to get downtown by 5:30. That's when the doors were opening and seats were first come, first served, so might as well get there when I could. Hubby was very nice and drove me in since I hate driving downtown and there weren't any trains running at a good time to get me down there. So, off we went at 4:45.
Got there a little before 5:30 and Rachael was waiting for me. Apparently, a bird had been stalking her bagel. LOL So, we wait for a bit and they let us in. Get checked in and my name checked off the list. :-) Then we got lanyards for the thing. It was in the new Modern Art Wing at the Art Institute. Very cool place. So, they've got rows of chairs set-up in front of the stage and we manage to snag two chairs in the second row off on the side where it looks like Rob will be playing. Yay!! We had awesome seats!
So, the show starts. Now, this may seem weird, but I'm not actually a fan of the radio station that was hosting this anymore. The morning show, especially. LOL I used to be, but they got way too annoying and played the same ten songs all day. Which, well, sucks. So, no more Mix for me. :-P So, they do the typical morning show stuff. I got picked to play one of their games - Trivia Catfight. Each of us got paired up with one of three folks from the morning show staff. The one guy would ask a trivia question and then you had to yell out the name of your person if you thought they knew the answer. My guy COMPLAINED after one of them and got me -6 POINTS! LOL
So, they had another guest and then IT WAS TIME FOR ROB!!! So, he comes out they chat for a bit then he grabs the guitar and starts playing. First up was Lonely No More. Kind of slow and chill. Very cool. A little more chatting then EVER THE SAME!!!
wraith816 HE DID EVER THE SAME!!!! OMG. It was so amazing!! He had Matt Beck as a back-up and he played along. More chatting then 3 AM. Which is just a beautiful song any which way you take it. It was the first song he ever wrote that he liked, so he kept it. He was 17 at the time. Which, just wow. And then it wrapped up with Her Diamonds from his new CD due out June 30th. He'll also be releasing a live concert DVD from the last tour of the show at Red Rocks the same day. Awesome. I'll be picking up both.
They did say no cameras, but I brought my little one anyway, just in case. Glad I did. Cos we were allowed to take pictures, just not while Rob was playing. So, ON TO THE PHOTOS!
( It's ROB!!! )
So, that's that. That was my morning. I am TIRED and it's only 1:45.....

I'm so excited I'm shaking
Jun. 15th, 2009 07:41 amSeriously. My hands are shaking right now. I just won invitation only passes to a special Rob Thomas acoustic show tomorrow morning at The Art Institute from one of the local radio stations!!!! OMG. OMG. OMG. You have no idea how awesome this is. I mean, we're talking like maybe 100 people will be at this thing. It's that exclusive and intimate. And I love Rob Thomas like you would not believe. Matchbox Twenty is the greatest band ever and I've seen every show they've done in Chicago (except the one where I was in TX on my honeymoon, but, oh well). So, yeah. Holy shit! This is going to be soooooooooo awesome!!!!
Which song to use?
Oct. 4th, 2006 05:39 pmFor the longest time, I have been wanting to make a Stargate vid to Rob Thomas' "When the Heartache Ends." It was actually the first vid idea I ever had. I think it's about time I got around to making it, but I am faced with a dilemna. On the secondary disc Rob released with the main album, there is another version of this song that is just Rob and his piano. It's so beautiful, but I'm not sure it would work well in the vid format. So I am imploring you, my flist, to help me decide!
The video is going to be Daniel angst-J/D friendship-THING-type video. So, which version better suits that (links to yousendit to download)?
The Regular Album Version
OR
Rob & His Piano Version
[Poll #837082]
Thanks folks!!
