switch842: (Glee: Kurt :D)
That vid bunny from yesterday? Totally now in official pre-planning stages. The lyrics are in a Word doc for plotting, I am downloading all the Blaine episodes from Amazon so I don't have to use clips with the network logo crap all over them. I may need to wait a few eps to see if there's more footage I can possibly work with. We'll see, I guess. By the way, can anyone recall any eps where we see Kurt & Blaine walking together? Besides the slo-mo hallway after their first meeting that is. ;-)

In general, today has been an exercise in patience. Martouf is getting like four new molars at once, so he is very, very crabby. Work exploded on us this morning. And, ugh, it's something I should have caught. I really, really should have. I did catch half of it, not that it ended up making any difference as we never reached a decision on how to fix what was going to go wrong before it did. Even if I had caught everything, it probably would have still exploded. Perhaps not to the extent it did, but it still would have been bad. We have a temporary solution in place. It's a pain in the ass, but it's the best we can do for now. The permanent fix won't be in place until May as it involves some fairly heavy IT changes. Grr....

On the upside, I did get to go to ballet today. My parents came down to watch Martouf since he has not been doing well with the babysitting there. And today would have been just awful with the teething. So, that was good. It was a good class, too. I feel sore, for sure, but the good sore. Hopefully, I'll be able to walk tomorrow. The shins are achin' a bit as we speak. Took some ibuprofen, may need to ice later. *fingers crossed*

Oh! And that haircut I was contemplating the other day? I found a pic of it not styled like that and it's pretty much your basic chin length bob. So, I don't know. I'm so waffly on these things. LOL

And I think that's it. How's y'all's Friday going?

And now I have a rampant Klaine vid bunny hopping around in my head. And the song is making me cry. Good cry, but still. Which means, if I do get around to making this (after the 800 other vids I have to do), it's gonna be rough and suck balls.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME GLEE FANDOM?!?!?!?

A friend of mine got some tarot cards over the weekend. She was inspired by another friend of hers that LOVES going to psychics and stuff and, well, it's just a HUGE waste of money. So, she decided to get a deck of cards and would do reading whenever her other friend wanted.

I've never really put much stock into any of those types of "mystical" things in so far as they can tell the future or whatever, and I think psychics are some of the biggest bullshitters out there. Sorry to anyone who believes that, but I just don't. At all. If you want to go for purely entertainment reasons, have at it. But if you truly believe a complete stranger can tell you your future, I just don't know....

But tarot cards have always been intriguing to me. Again, not so much as they can tell the future, but maybe help you focus on certain areas of your life and all that kind of stuff. So, we went out for lunch today (our boss, too) and played around with the deck. She told me to look through the book of different layouts to see what I wanted to know. The first layout I opened to was "What Am I Doing With My Life." And that was it. Cos I have no idea... LOL

So, confession time before we continue: a couple months ago, I submitted myself to Random Acts when they put out an announcement that they were looking for more vidders. And they, for some reason, decided they liked me. So, I've been working for Random Acts for the last couple months and have gotten and "completed" my first two assignments. I say "completed" because I'm still waiting on feedback *ahem* on them and what I may need to fix/change/etc.

And now we get back to the tarot cards. The reading that came out was basically that I need to get over myself and let my creativity out and everything will be great. This is definitely along the lines of what I've been sort of thinking myself. Like all creative people, I'm often much more critical of my work than others are. And a lot of the time I've been thinking that any minute now they're going to realize what a hack I am and "fire" me cos I just suck so much. But I need to stop thinking that, realize that they accepted me for a reason and it's gonna be fantastic.

So, yeah. That's what's been going on.

So, I've been pondering every now and then as to what I want all the guests to sign at the Stargate con in August. Every year, I have them sign DVD covers, and, well, I'm starting to run out of room! LOL Anyway, I was checking Creation's website just to check who all was coming when I noticed that Steve Bacic has been added to the guest list. When did this happen? No idea. And, well, sadly, I have no DVD for him to sign. *sadface* Then, I was over looking at the Sourcie Awards category for this week (Most Funny Moment or something like that) and Supernatural was in the running for Changing Channels. *DING!* Paging Dr. Sexy. I run off to Amazon. When does the season 5 DVD come out? SEPTEMBER 7TH! The week AFTER the con! Noooooooo!!!!!!! My plan has been foiled. Drat.... *back to sadface*

Oh! And I'm ripping!! Yay!!! But, also, argh. It's the most annoying part of vidding for me. It just takes....so....long.... Urgh. I do also need some help with two lines. I just can't find the right clips for them: "When I come home tired/And I come home late." It's a rather upbeat tempo, so I need something where he's looking all tired and raggedy. Any shots like that of McKay coming back through the gate? Anyone? Or any suggestions for those lines would be appreciated. :-)
switch842: (Leverage: Sterling)
I need to write this all down somewhere to organize myself.

Back here cos no one else cares )

In other news....
Today went just fine. Work was good. Pretty much the same stuff I was doing before with some minor changes as everyone in the mortgage industry has gone batshit crazy. :-)

And new layout. It is now June. Season 3 of Leverage premieres in 19 days. So, we are Leverage-ified. :-)
switch842: (SPN: Sam/Dean WTF)
I ranted over in [livejournal.com profile] fanvidrants about the current trend I'm seeing of songs being all chopped down to less than two minutes. And how much I hate it. Apparently, no one agrees with me. And all the comments are making me think that I don't vid the same way everyone else apparently does.

I don't start with a story and try to find a song or part of a song that fits it. It all starts with the song and I vid the song. That's it. I'm not trying to shove things together that only work if I use this little bit here and that bit there.

Not that either way is necessarily right or wrong. It just seems odd that I seem to have such a fundamentally different view of creating a vid. It's weird...
switch842: (SPN: Demon!Sam)
Supernatural season 4 is finally out on DVD Tuesday (YAY!!!!) which means I can get started on the 8 million SPN vids I have floating around. But, I'm having a small conflict over the Sam one I need to make. Sam is definitely the "I" in the video narrative, except for like 2 lines at the beginning of the second verse. That is definitely Dean. *sigh* Can I do that? Change POV in the middle of a verse? I mean, I don't think I really have any option, but any recommendations on how to make it work? I've done the switching POV in different verses before, but never mid-verse. It just has me a little worried. Or am I making this a much bigger deal than it need to be?
switch842: (SPN: Jared Trailer)
I have like 6 vid plot bunnies running around my head right now. And, yes, one of them is for Stargate! It's actually been floating around for a couple years now and I keep hearing the song and it won't go away, so, well, you know how that goes. I just hope I can get through my Big Bang vid and then I can get working on everything else! LOL
switch842: (SGA: McShep Shrine)
So, I still can't get ULead working quit right, for some reason. Even though I'm cutting the clips exactly where I cut them in InterVideo, I'm ending up 5 seconds short? WTF?

So, here's what I'm doing --

I had a thought that since Old InterVideo (OIV) likes my avi files but New IV (NIV) doesn't, that I could import everything into OIV, then output each clip by itself as an IV avi. And since it's an IV avi, the NIV should like it. Well, guess what. It does! So, that's what I'm doing. And it's taking forever and annoying the ever loving FUCK out of me. But, DAMMIT! I need to get this vid done. And out there and out of my head. And then find something I can work with....

I hate you

You know who you are. :-P

switch842: (BB: Ben 2)
Have you ever heard a song and new it would be perfect for a vid, but had no idea what? There's this song by Breaking Benjamin that would make a really, really amazing vid. But for the life of me, I cannot think of any of my current fandoms that it would really work for. Makes me sad. :-( If you're interested, the lyrics and a download link are behind the cut.

Unknown Soldier )

ETA: And why not just make this a full on BB post while I'm at it. I have become OBSESSED with their video for Polyamorous. Yes, old song, but whatever. It's awesome. And Ben is hot. And has a tongue ring. *guh*

Sorry, it's been so long since Part 1. :-) But here's the next/final chapter in my Vidder's Diary thing. If you need a refresher here's Part 1.

Vidder's Diary – Part 2 )

And that is Video Making, the Switch way. :-)
switch842: (Daniel - Quest 2)
So, this is inspired by [livejournal.com profile] brihana25's post yesterday about vid making. I, too, have gotten some questions about making videos, so I thought I would offer my own view in counterpoint to hers. As she said, though, I cannot tell you how to make a video, I can only tell you how I do it. Maybe it works for you, maybe it doesn't. There really isn't a right or wrong way to do this.

I think I'll do this by talking you through a couple of the videos I have made as I have used a couple different techniques (you can find them all here as it might be helpful to view them to know what I’m talking about). I'll also be talking about the programs I use and offering opinions on certain things. Please keep in mind, this is only my opinion and what I think doesn't work may work just fine for you. This is not intended to be a bashing of any one type of process or anything like that. This is just me, letting you know how I do it. :-)

Switch's Guide to Vid Making Part 1 )

And now this is getting long so I shall continue tomorrow. Or the day after…. :-) Please let me know if you have any questions or anything like that.
switch842: (Daniel - Back Off)
I used to use InterVideo, but that has decided to just stop working. I even uninstalled and reinstalled. Nothing. It just keeps freezing and won't do anything. I had a trail of Adobe Premiere, but that expired. I am NOT using the Windows Movie Maker piece of crap. So, any suggestions for FREE video editing software would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
