No seriously. I was so worried I was going to feel like crap after ballet class today with having done NOTHING during the six week hiatus. But dammit, I feel awesome. Class was awesome, I didn't lose any flexibility, I was thisclose to getting a double. I knew I just needed new shoes. My old ones are so old I have no idea when I even ordered them.

However, earlier this evening, Martouf took a little trip and bashed his head into the foot of our couch. Yup. Big ol' goose egg right between his eyes. Ugh. Luckily, no blood and his pupils are dilating, so no concussion. But he was not a happy baby for awhile there. :-(

But this morning! Martouf went to his first storytime! My mom and dad signed up for a storytime thing at a local library for toddlers and caregivers. So, every Friday morning they're going to take him. And he was very well behaved, I was glad to hear. When we do storytime before bed he likes to touch the books and turn the pages and I was a little worried he might try and do that, but he did not. Yay! :-)

So, it's been awhile since I've posted here. Sorry about that...

Not much going on. Martouf seems to finally be getting his last molars in. Sooooooo drooly and he was kind of swollen and been really fussy the last couple days. Poor guy. :-(

Ballet starts back on Friday. Yay. I've been such a slacker while class has been on hiatus. I feel like a schlub.

GLEE STARTS NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND SUPERNATURAL!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea what other shows are on. LOL That "The New Girl" with Zooey Deschanel looks fun. I like her. And it's on after Glee! So, that's convenient.

So, what else is there? Psych's not back til October. I think I might give The Playboy Club a try, too, cos Sean Maher. Yum. Any suggestions?

Oh! I've been reading "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." It's awesome. Really. Check it out if you haven't.

Last week in ballet class when we were doing grand battements, the teacher talked about how it's really your stomach helping to life your leg up and you're not just lifting it with the thigh. Earlier this week, I was working out a bit and was on the floor doing some crunches when I remembered that once upon a time, my previous ballet teacher would have us do grand battements laying down on the floor. It helps isolate the muscles you need to be using so you don't just rely on pushing off the floor to get your leg up.

Today in class, I mention this to the teacher since I was there a little early and we kinda chat about stuff before class starts. So, she says that they had done that before and, in fact, have done entire classes in center away from the barre. And, hey! We should do that today!

*facepalm*

I. Am. So. Sore.

And my back is killing me. I think I'm gonna need to break out the heating pad. We're supposed to go out for dinner tonight for my brother in law's birthday. Restaurant chairs usually aren't very comfortable. Awesome.
switch842: (Glee: Kurt :D)
That vid bunny from yesterday? Totally now in official pre-planning stages. The lyrics are in a Word doc for plotting, I am downloading all the Blaine episodes from Amazon so I don't have to use clips with the network logo crap all over them. I may need to wait a few eps to see if there's more footage I can possibly work with. We'll see, I guess. By the way, can anyone recall any eps where we see Kurt & Blaine walking together? Besides the slo-mo hallway after their first meeting that is. ;-)

In general, today has been an exercise in patience. Martouf is getting like four new molars at once, so he is very, very crabby. Work exploded on us this morning. And, ugh, it's something I should have caught. I really, really should have. I did catch half of it, not that it ended up making any difference as we never reached a decision on how to fix what was going to go wrong before it did. Even if I had caught everything, it probably would have still exploded. Perhaps not to the extent it did, but it still would have been bad. We have a temporary solution in place. It's a pain in the ass, but it's the best we can do for now. The permanent fix won't be in place until May as it involves some fairly heavy IT changes. Grr....

On the upside, I did get to go to ballet today. My parents came down to watch Martouf since he has not been doing well with the babysitting there. And today would have been just awful with the teething. So, that was good. It was a good class, too. I feel sore, for sure, but the good sore. Hopefully, I'll be able to walk tomorrow. The shins are achin' a bit as we speak. Took some ibuprofen, may need to ice later. *fingers crossed*

Oh! And that haircut I was contemplating the other day? I found a pic of it not styled like that and it's pretty much your basic chin length bob. So, I don't know. I'm so waffly on these things. LOL

And I think that's it. How's y'all's Friday going?
switch842: (Misc: Capt Awesome)
It seems like it's been forever since I've posted, like, real life stuff and not just fandom ramblings. So, I shall do some of that now. :-)

Work is driving me nuts, a little bit. But, this is nothing new. I may have posted about this before, where I'm trying to get very specific information that I need in order to do my job and was getting the run around of everyone telling me to ask everyone else. I think I finally got the someone to listen, gave them some more information that they were asking for, and got in response "Wow! That's going to be a lot of information. Are you sure that's what you need?" YES!! THAT'S WHAT I NEED!! I know it's a lot of information, but I NEED IT TO DO MY JOB. Please give it to me. I swear, I'm getting ready to pull my hair out with this.

Had my second ballet class this past Friday. The babysitting went much better. I was a little worried as Martouf has actually been going down for naps around that time now because of the teething. I was concerned he was just going to be super fussy, but he was just fine. He almost fell asleep in the car on the way home, but luckily it's a short drive and I managed to feed him a bottle before nap time. As for me, I showed up to class with my shins wrapped as a preemptive strike against my shin splints acting up. The teacher was all "Are you okay?" Yeah, it's fine. And it actually was. Class wasn't too bad. Until the end. We're getting ready to do the final combination or whatever and she asks if I'm up for jumping. My shins are feeling fine so I agree. However, if I had known what she was going to make us do, I may have declined. 64 CHANGEMENTS. Now, 99% of you probably have no idea what that is. What it is, is starting in fifth position (which is the feet crossed, heel to toe and toe to heel), you jump up, switch which foot is in front and land and repeat. And it's quick. Up down up down up down. Here's sort of an OK vid if you want to see what I'm talking about. Yeah. 64 of those in a row. That was not fun. I was IN PAIN yesterday. Ugh. My calves, too. Not just the shins. Oy.

I went to see I Am Number Four last weekend when Erin was here. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Some spoilers )

My Glee Tickets are still for sale. If you know anyone who might want them. :-)

The Oscars are tonight! Yay!! I've actually seen some of the nominated movies this year, so I think I actually have things to be rooting for. :-) Can't wait to see what everyone's wearing! Hehe.

How do I always manage to forget hoe brutal ballet class?

Back from my first class in about 2 years, now that I think about. Dang, that's a long time. Anyway, the place is nice. Small class. It's an all adult class and it includes folks that have never danced before. So, it might be a little more basic than I'm used to, but it'll be good enough for now. And damn, I'm tired just from that. Hell, man, just STANDING properly in ballet is a huge effort. My shins hate me so much right now. Eh, they can suck it up. ;-)

No class for me next week since ERIN WILL BE HERE!! YAY!!!!!!!!! :-D

OK, I think that's all for now. Later!
switch842: (JDM: Woohoo)
YAY!! We went to go check out the place and see how the babysitting worked. It's a very nice place, quite new. There's no real babysitting "room" per se. There's just a lounge area with a little table and some toys, which is fine. There were no kids there today, and the woman in charge said there's maybe only 1 or 2 kids at a time. So, I think it'll be nice. Martouf went with us so he got to check out the place, too and meet the people. LOL Not sure what he makes of it... And anyway, the classroom is just down the hall and it has a nice window. So, if he gets fussy the watcher can just bring him by and he can look in and see Mommy. So, yeah. I think it'll work out just fine. :-)
switch842: (Glee: Kurt/Blaine Running)
I have found a new studio for ballet lessons! Yay! This makes me happy. There are a few things that need to be worked out before I can know for certain if I can actually sign up for class, but the biggest hurdle is out of the way. The class is on Fridays at noon, which is normally right in the middle of my work day (10-2), but work is OK with me altering my schedule slightly once a week. The next hurdle is someone to watch Martouf. The center does offer babysitting, so I just need to make a call and get all the specific questions answered about that. I hope we can make it work. I really need to get back to class...

Had a weird dream that hubby took me on a Disney Cruise. But, it was like an adult only cruise, so it wasn't all cartoony. And there were 7 ships leaving port at the same time and it was really cool to see! One ship had all the Winnie the Pooh characters carved into it, one was like a pirate ship. And there was this MASSIVE wake from all the ships that was crashing against the shore and was also cool to see. So, yeah. That was random...

I haz a theory about Glee. Well, one aspect of Glee that seems to have everyone up in arms: Kurt's wardrobe. We Gleeks know that Glee is far from perfect, but the fact that this middle class kid has a wardrobe of couture sweaters (and drives an Escalade) is a little mind-boggling. I have come up with a theory as to how/why. Kurt's mother passed away when he was very young. Six or so, I think. But the show has never mentioned how she died. What if she passed away in some tragic drunk driving accident with a CEO worth billions or surgery gone wrong and so the Hummel family received some sort of massive settlement worth millions? Most of it, Burt put away for Kurt's future. Some of it was used to pay off their house. But, since Burt is from a blue collar background, he doesn't really need/want the money, so he continues to work at the garage and Kurt gets a large monthly/weekly allowance that allows him to buy the clothes he wants. What do we think? Yes? No? Completely insane? Not sure where I'm going with that, but there you have it...

Ouch

I took out my New York City Ballet workout DVD last night since I was feeling all blechy. Man, I am sore today. Still can't make it through the whole thing. Got through 45 minutes of it, which is longer than last time. But still.

AND IT'S THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG. (I'd insert my little flaily icon guy, but I can't get to my picture storage at work.)

And tomorrow I go see Erin! Yay!!!
switch842: (Misc: Colin Outdoors)
The therapist doesn't think I need to stop dancing. The reason it's all so bad this time around is because I have not been able to rest properly since aggravating it. He thinks that once it's all over and I can just sit on my ass for two weeks, I should be good. This does however mean that the trip to Disney is out as that would be the weekend after Nutcracker is over. Yeah, that's not gonna happen. :-( Oh, well. I'd much rather be able to walk than visit the Mouse House again.

And I am so happy I get to sleep in tomorrow. That's the one downside of cons - NO SLEEP. But it's so worth it! LOL
switch842: (SGA: Daniel)
But I need to vent or whine or something.

My shins are dead. Just completely. I had to leave rehearsal early tonight, which I've never done. I'm starting to get really, really worried that I might have to stop dancing. It's been two solid months of them acting up when usually it's 3 or 4 days. This is just bad. It's so bad. I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm seeing the physical therapist tomorrow and I'll see what he has to say. I don't want him to tell me I have to stop. I really, really don't...
switch842: (QAF: Melanie Dancer)
My mom just called. A family friend has 4 tickets to the Joffrey Ballet on Saturday and can't make it. They're third row, center. I am so there! Yay!!! No idea what they're performing, but I really don't care. Perhaps I should go look it up, anyway.... :-D
switch842: (QAF: Melanie Dancer)
I start Nutcracker rehearsals on Monday. Wow. Feels like the last one just ended yesterday. Time certainly flies. It'll be good to get back into it, though. :-)

Although, my shin splints AND tendonitis both feel like they're acting up. Ugh. Yay. I ended up skipping ballet class last night cos of the shin splints. I'd like to be able to walk on Monday. I am hoping that maybe it's just a reaction to the sudden drop in temperature. Cos my jaw is hurting a bit, too. Lots of fun around here. Ick.

Anyway, normal service should be resumed in this journal now. I think I've gotten most of the SPN hype out of my system. Well, until I finish season 3, anyway. :-D There will be an icon post I'm sure sometime in the near future. Cos, well, I need more of those. :-D
switch842: (QAF: Melanie Dancer)
Cos apparently I wasn't doing a back bend quite right last night. That's right! We did more back bends!! Ugh. Every combination had some sort of back bend in it. Except the frappes. Everything else, yeasureyoubetcha! But ya know what? It's kind of difficult to back bend properly when you're in releve at the barre with your arms above your head so you have nothing to hold on to. Seriously, try it. Go stand in the middle of your room, on the balls of your feet, put your arms over your head and bend backwards. Not so easy. Anyway, we're doing this and she comes up behind me, pushes up on the middle of my back and then grabs my hair to pull my head back. I guess I was using too much of my lower back and should have just been bending with my upper back? I don't know. But it kinda hurt. And was weird.

This class also contains a number of high school girls. And I swear I am thisclose to kicking them all in the shins. They don't move!! Ugh. We'll be in the corner learning whatever combination it is. Then the teacher will say "Jane, Suzie, Marie, Kelly and Anne, first group!" Then tells the rest us to sort ourselves into groups of 4 or 5. So, the first group goes. If a bunch of the high school girls are next in line. They won't go. They'll just stand there. Causing the teacher to have to stop and yell at them wasting more time. JUST GO!! Argh! They also have no concept of personal space and must all cluster around each other in one big group. We'll be in the center. I'll take a spot in the back and I am tall and an adult. They'll come filtering in and inevitably, one of them will end up standing about a foot and half in front of me as they can't be more than 2 inches from their BFF or OMG, they'll just die! Honey. My legs are three feet long. I'm gonna kick you in the ass if you don't move. So move it! You won't? OK. Here comes my foot up your ass. :-D

House!! )
switch842: (QAF: Melanie Dancer)
So, I finally made it back to ballet class. After not having done anything since last December. Yeah, I'm a little sore. I'll be feeling it tomorrow for sure. Ugh. But it was good to go back. I missed it. Was starting to feel kinda mushy. Not pleasant.

BTW, when does House start? Is that next week?
switch842: (Michelle B&W dancer)
I have to go to the doctor tomorrow for a check up. Nothing serious, but she's going to check my cholosteral and all that stuff for the first time. I'm very nervous about the cholosteral thing as two of my favorite foods are red meat and chocolate. Oy.

Less than two weeks til Peter Pan! I'm actually getting very excited about it. I can't wait to see the pirate scenes. I've heard they are very amusing. :-)

Tonight at ballet class (which was my first in three weeks, oy vey!), my teacher mentioned these two youtube videos about these Chinese ballet dancers. Holy Crap. In the first one, she does pirouettes EN POINTE on the guys shoulders and then a promenade EN POINTE ON HIS HEAD!! It's insane. I swear the gilr has no bones in her body. And she has the most amazing muscle control. She does not move or twitch one iota. You will flip your lid. They're behind the cut if want to take a look. And you should.

AMAZING ballet-ic feats )

Ugh!

My legs feel like rubber. Ballet class was a killer tonight. I'm sure no one here really cares or knows anything about this, but the first thing she had us do were 16 count (8 down, 8 up) grande plies. NOT FUN. Those usually take 4 counts at most. So, my legs have been jelly pretty much since class started. It's times like these I really really wish I had a hot tub.

I need something pretty to look at. :-)
