Netflix streaming had the TV show "Friends with Benefits" that Danneel was in that aired over the summer on NBC but wasn't actually picked up for a regular run. Being sick in bed the last two days I decided to give it a shot, cos generally, I like her.

It was okay. Better than what I thought it would be given the title and premise. Fairly obvious with where it was going to be headed but still interesting enough.

It did have me wondering if some episodes got scrapped entirely or something. In one episode one of the characters if working at his job (some sort of office thing) and everything's fine and the next he's apparently been unemployed for awhile with no mention of how he came to be unemployed. Then, the two friends who are hooking up (Danneel and the guy who plays Ben, the aforementioned unemployed guy) get in this huge fight and "break up" at the end of it. She leaves in tears, etc etc. The next episode opens with them in bed like nothing is wrong. Um, what? Resolution please? It was weird.

So, yeah. If you're stuck at home and have Netflix, it's not a bad show. But it definitely could have been better.

New TV!

I've started watching some new TV shows. Some new new, others just new to me.

First - Community. How did I wait so long to watch this show. It's GENIUS! I'm about half way through season 2 and I've loved every episode so far. They even made a Stargate joke! And the guest stars/cameos? Amazing people. Love it.

Next - Go On. I've like Matthew Perry since Friends so I was excited to see him back on TV (again). I'm really liking this one. Though, I'm a little worried about the sustainability of the conceit, much like Common Law. So, we'll see.

And lastly - The New Normal. I was resisting this one for awhile sort of off the merit of everyone's over the top reaction to how AMAZING it was and how Ryan Murphy is a GENIUS. But finally I caved when I couldn't get away from it and it's okay. I like it well enough but I'm nowhere near thinking it's the greatest thing ever.

So, that's that. What else is everyone watching this fall season?

I'm watching Slings & Arrows on DVD thanks to Netflix. First off - Canadian TV is fantastic. It was Paul Gross for one and much less stringent censors. Anyway, it's totally making me miss Shakespeare and theater and Stratford and, ugh. I WANT TO GO! And the Chicago Shakespeare Company is doing Midsummer Night's Dream. My favorite. I might have to try and convince hubby to go.

Hubby and I went out on a double date last night to dinner and a movie. We saw This Means War. It was awesome. It was also completely ridiculous, but it's a movie that is aware of its ridiculousness so that makes it awesome. It was entirely predictable, but still quite funny. There were several places where the whole theater was laughing out loud. Including my husband and he is very picky. So, yeah. Definitely recommend it. 4/5

We've also started watching a Canadian TV series through Netflix - Slings and Arrows. It stars Paul Gross as an actor who takes over as director of a large theater festival when the current director dies. A young Rachel McAdams is one of the costars, too. It's fantastic. Weird and kooky and everything Canadian TV is. I wish we got more Canadian series down here. Seriously, they're fantastic.

I also watched the livestream of "8" last night when we got home. For those that don't know, "8" is a play that was written by Dustin Lance Black that is a dramatic retelling of the trials that led to the repealing of Prop 8 in California. I say "dramatic retelling" because it's highly condensed, but it doesn't seem like it was overly dramatized into, like, a Lifetime Movie of the Week thing, if that makes sense. It's definitely worth watching if you can find the two hours to spare. It's up here on YouTube.

This morning, I went to a taping of Rosie O'Donnell's new talk show for OWN - The Rosie Show. It's filming at the old Harpo Studios here in Chicago. We were there pretty early as we had to take the train in from the burbs and have limited options. So, while we're waiting to be let in, one of the PA/producer people walks down the line asking if anyone has any questions for Rosie. I guess after her monologue thing, she does a brief Q&A with the audience. So, my mom says she does. And they liked her question well enough that she got to be one of the people asking on TV! My mom asked her about The Flintstones movie Rosie did and if she could still do the Betty Rubble laugh.

Anyway, the show actually airs TONIGHT!! at 7 ET/6 CT on OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). So, tune in if you want to see my awesome mom! I was sitting two seats down from her, so I may be on, too, depending on how wide the shot is. The guests were Wanda Sykes and Gloria Estefan! It was a really fun show. I liked it a lot. So, y'all should tune in! :-)

ETA: THEY CUT MY MOM!!!!!!!!!

Stupid fucking producers. Her question was way better than the dumbass Ben & Jerry's question they kept.

I'm done with Rosie. No more. :-P
switch842: (Glee: Blaine Microphone)
So, it's been awhile since I've posted here. Sorry about that...

Not much going on. Martouf seems to finally be getting his last molars in. Sooooooo drooly and he was kind of swollen and been really fussy the last couple days. Poor guy. :-(

Ballet starts back on Friday. Yay. I've been such a slacker while class has been on hiatus. I feel like a schlub.

GLEE STARTS NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND SUPERNATURAL!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea what other shows are on. LOL That "The New Girl" with Zooey Deschanel looks fun. I like her. And it's on after Glee! So, that's convenient.

So, what else is there? Psych's not back til October. I think I might give The Playboy Club a try, too, cos Sean Maher. Yum. Any suggestions?

Oh! I've been reading "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." It's awesome. Really. Check it out if you haven't.

Talking about the design elements for The Cape!

switch842: (Castle: Duo)
So, TV finally starts this week! Yay!!

Here's my schedule so far:

Monday: Chuck and Castle
Tuesday: Glee
Wednesday: ??
Thursday: Big Bang Theory (?)
Friday: SUPERNATURAL!

Am I missing anything? I thought there was something else on Friday's but now I can't remember...

Last day!!

Day 1-29 )

Day 30 - Saddest character death: There's quite a few I could put in here. But, I think I'm going to have to go with Janet Fraiser from SG-1. Mostly because it was completely out of nowhere and permanent (which is rare in scifi).
switch842: (SPN: Pada Something)
Day 1-28 )

Day 29 - Current TV show obsession: Leverage and Supernatural. Yup. :-)

Day 30 )
switch842: (Default)
Day 1-27 )

Day 28 - First TV show obsession: SeaQuest. Dear God, but I loved that show. Had a huge crush on Jonathan Brandis, too. Poster on the wall, hat, t-shirt, whatever else I could find. I had it.

Days 29-30 )
switch842: (Leverage: Team 02)
Day 1-26 )

Day 27 - Best pilot episode: LEVERAGE!!! I loved it from the beginning. It was just great. The set-up for all the characters, the flashbacks, CHICAGO. Yup. It had me right away.

Days 28-30 )
switch842: (SPN: Dean Lazarus)
Day 1-25 )

Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale: I'm gonna have to go with Supernatural Season 3. I never thought they would actually kill Dean and send him to hell. I mean, they'd each been killed a few times by then, but this was like THE BIG DEATH. I'm really glad I wasn't a fan at the time and had to deal with watching it live. LOL But I did like how they didn't drag out Dean gettingout. Cos we all knew he would get out, so season 4 premiere, first thing that happens, Dean gets out. :-)

Days 27-30 )

Day 1-24 )

Day 25 - A show you plan on watching (old or new): I currently have Rome and Spartacus in my Netflix queue. So, I guess those are next on the list.

Days 26-30 )
switch842: (SPN: Sam Classy)
Catching up as I was out of town...

Day 1-22 )

Day 23 - Most annoying character: Um, Buffy. I'm sorry, but she just got soooo on my nerves. And it's hard to watch a show when you hate the main character. I guess there was a reason I didn't get into the show back in the day..

Day 24 - Best quote: Of any show? Ever? Seriously? That's too hard!!! So, you'll get a couple.
For the first one, I shall refer you back to Day 9 and the scene in Abyss between Jack & Daniel. Then there's Daniel's "I'm in a cave" from The First Ones. Jack's "I remember a man. He's bald and he wears short-sleeves. He's very important to me. I think his name is Homer." Then from Supernatural we have "I think Dad wants us to pick up where he left off. You know, saving people, hunting things. The family business." Anything Dean says to try and pick up a chick. "I lost my shoe." Eliot describing Parker as "...20 pounds of crazy in a 5 pound bag." The list is just endless. I can't pick one, I'm sorry...

Days 25-30 )
switch842: (Default)
Day 1-21 )

Day 22 - Favorite series finale: I'm gonna go to the Wayback Machine on this one and say Cheers. It was one of those series finales that didn't really feel like the lives of the people on the show were over, we just stopped being privy to what was happening. And I still remember the last line of the show: The bar had closed for the night, everyone had gone home, but Sam was still there cleaning up. Some guy comes down the stairs, knocks on the door and Sam replied, "Sorry. We're closed." Fade to black. It made me a little teary, making me a little teary now, thinking of it. LOL It was just one of those really perfect "endings".

Days 23-30 )
switch842: (SG: J/D Squee)
Day 1-20 )

Day 21 - Favorite ship: If we're talking canon ships, I would have to go with Daniel/Vala. If just favorite ship whatever, then Jack/Daniel. :-)

Days 22-30 )
switch842: (TW: Jack/Ianto Kiss)
Day 1-19 )

Day 20 - Favorite kiss: I think I'm gonna have to go with the Jack/Ianto kiss in my icon. It was a very touching scene, and the closest Jack would probably ever come to telling Ianto "I love you." And, yeah. It was just good. :-)

Days 21-30 )
switch842: (SPN: Castiel Love)
Day 1-18 )

Day 19 - Best TV show cast: Oh, goodness. This is certainly a tough one. I mean, what is it that makes a great cast? But I think I'm going to have to go with Supernatural. I mean, the chemistry between all of them (Jared, Jensen, Misha & Jim and all the guest stars) is always just top notch.

Days 20-30 )
switch842: (Psych: Friends)
Day 1-17 )

Day 18 - Favorite title sequence: I'm gonna go with Psych on this one. More for the theme song, than the actual title sequence. In an age where most TV shows were getting rid of the theme song in favor of 10 second musical "stings" and a title card, Psych kept the theme song alive and kicking. And with special episodes they change it up: the Christmas episodes have jingle bells in them, the Bollywood episode was recorded in Hindi (I think), Boys II Men recorded a version for the ep where Gus was in an a capella group. Thank you, Psych, for keeping it real.

ETA: As, [livejournal.com profile] lovellama pointed out, there was also a Spanish version when they did the ep involving the Spanish Soap Opera.

All themes behind the cut because I'm awesome (youtube vids) )
